Smarter. Easier. Greener Detergent!

Whenever a company makes great strides in improving their product in an effort to offer a better option for our families & homes I must give a salute!
Method has created a new line of “smarter, easier & greener” laundry detergents.

It’s made using 95% natural & renewable ingredients., it’s readily biodegradable and non-toxic in use, for skin-friendly clean clothes!  Due to its ultra concentrated formula, (they do not water down their formulas like other brands out there) they were able to serve the detergent in a smaller more convenient & easy to use bottle, with a pump.  Their bottle uses over “36% less plastic compared to traditional 2x detergents & 50% of that comes from recycled plastics.”

With the pump top, this detergent is easier & cleaner to use, there is no messy rim or cup to fight with and it takes up less room in your cupboard.  With one small bottle you are getting 50 loads of clean, fresh laundry!

Fighting dirty laundry one load at a time, while trying to make a softer footprint on our world, this product is an overall winner in my book of green!

Try it out and check out more details where you can print coupons as well!

Preparing to Vacate

July 6th, 2009 Jennifer Posted in Green Cleaning, Green Home No Comments »

Summer is in full swing and many have short trips and vacations planned. I don’t know about you, but I love to come home to a clean house so preparing to leave is on my to-do list along with all the packing. I do all the usual cleaning such as vacuuming, dishes, dusting, making sure the animals are taken care of, etc… along with some things you may not have thought about. I also unplug things like the toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, televisions, etc… that still use energy even in the “off” position. I also turn the thermostat off or at least down in the winter or up in the summer so that my furnace/air doesn’t come on unless there is an extreme temperature shift. Since I have animals that need to be fed and hydrated, I usually hire someone to care for them and bring my mail and newspapers in. If you don’t, consider calling the paper and stopping into your local post office and suspending service until you get back.

Till tomorrow…live green!

Friday Five!

This week has been all about improving the quality of the air we breathe. Here are five simple ways to do that inside your home!

1. Have your ducts cleaned – Getting your air ducts cleaned can improve air quality by as much as 53%. How often to do that depends on the factors in your home, one way to tell they need to be cleaned is if you can see dust particles floating in the sunlight, another indicator is waking up congested every morning from breathing dust all night long.

2. Plants – not only do they provide beauty, but they also recycle the air by using carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen back into the air. Make sure to dust your plant leaves regularly with a simple vinegar water solution.

3. Open your Windows – Let in the fresh air from outside! Even in the city, the outside air is cleaner than you may think and you’ll be diluting the inside pollutants that much more.

4. Vacuum regularly – Even if your carpets don’t “look” dirty, chances are, they are hiding millions of dead skin cells, dust mites, and dirt. If your vacuum has a Hepa filter… even better! My choice of vacuum is Dyson’s DC 25.

5. Ban smoking and restrict pets – no brainers here but keeping pets out of bedrooms will help cut down on the pollutants you breathe.

Till tomorrow… live green!

Free Yourself of Clutter!

November 25th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in Green Cleaning, Green Home No Comments »

With the holidays fast approaching I am finding a need for tranquility so this week I’d like to share with you some ways to slow down and take some time out for yourself. One of the best ways to do this is to clear out the clutter.

Here’s a quote I received in my inbox from Momstown.com, “In order to gain freedom, it’s important to simplify. Simplify by losing excess stuff. When we’re not mired down in excess we find that we have more time”. Isn’t that the truth! Now’s the time to gather up all that you haven’t used or are not going to use in the near future and donate to charity, list on freecycle.org, or pitch.

If it is usable, I try to donate it and take it as a charitable write-off on my taxes. You can easily estimate the value of your items on It’s Deductible and they will track it all free! If you don’t have a lot to donate or cannot take a charitable deduction, and your item is still usable, consider listing it for free on Freecycle.org, there are over 4,500 groups around the world so there is bound to be one in your area! Lastly, there is just some stuff that is bound for the landfill… recycle it if you can but most importantly don’t let that clutter get the best of you. Free yourself and you will find you have more clarity and happiness in your life.

Till tomorrow…Live Green,

Green your Cleaning!

October 15th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in Green Cleaning, Green Home No Comments »

There are many organic cleaning products on the market today such as Green Works and Method which work great however, I prefer to make my own. It is amazingly easy to make your own solutions and only requires a couple of basic ingredients and optional essential oils.

These basic ingredients are; white vinegar to cut grease, baking soda to deodorize, Borax (a little stronger than baking soda), and Castile soap (a vegetable-oil based liquid soap). Essential oils can also be added for a variety of reasons as well as scent.

Glass/Window Cleaner
1 part water
1 part vinegar

Combine in spray bottle and use crumpled up newspaper to wipe to make your glass sparkle! Best results achieved on glass that is not in direct sunlight at time of cleaning.

All Purpose Cleaner
1 tsp Borax
24 oz warm water
2 Tbsp Vinegar
¼ cup Castile Soap
2 drops essential oil of choice

Mix Borax with warm water and shake until dissolved. Add vinegar and shake again. Then add soap and oil, mix gently to avoid suds. Great for cleaning counters!

Toilet Cleaner
¼ to ½ cup baking soda or Borax

Sprinkle into toilet, let stand overnight, scrub clean and flush! A few drops of disinfecting essential oil can be added to water as well.

Simple solutions to keep harmful toxins out of your home!

Till Tomorrow…Live Green!
