Eco-Chic Designer: Patricia Candido

August 11th, 2010 Jennifer Posted in Green Fashion No Comments »

I always frequent the local Farmers’ Market & recently while visiting the Calabasas Farmer’s Market I found a designer that I just adore.  Her designs & inspiration come all the way from the Brazilian Amazonian Region where local Brazilian Indians sew organic materials easily found in the forest into beautiful jewelry.  Patricia took her inspiration home to create designs that would use Brazil’s natural gemstones & recycled dark denim cords to create very unique and alluring bracelets.  By using recycled denim cords instead of leather, she was able to stick to her Eco-conscious roots, while creating designs that have now become a coveted item by stars & people all over the world, including Halle Berry, Carrie Underwood, Tyra Banks and many, many more.

I always like to share with you, exciting people, places and green finds, and I really feel you will love Patricia Candido’s work.  Check out her website for more information & enjoy your bracelets, as I certainly have been loving mine!

Leave a Lighter Footprint with Eco-friendly Shoes

March 25th, 2009 Jennifer Posted in Green Fashion No Comments »

What girl doesn’t love a good pair of shoes? Well, I’m no Imelda Marcos of shoes, but I do have a few pairs. Since I try my best to live a “green” lifestyle, I want my wardrobe to reflect that and my shoes are no different. Last year, I shared with you a pair of wrap boots that I purchased, now I’d like to share a couple of places I shop for my dressy, night-out-on-the-town shoes. I haven’t found a local portal just yet for heels so I searched online and came up with some gorgeous styles I just had to have from Kitty Cooper in London, England. I absolutely adore this black heel with a recycled polka dot fabric toe, the Tamara in Audrey Black from the Winter 2007/08 collection. Kitty’s shoes are leather; however, she views leather as the natural by-product of the food industry and only uses leathers tanned using organic substances.

I’m considering having a pair of shoes made to order from Hetty Rose. She makes beautiful pumps that fit like gloves from vintage kimono fabrics. When I do, I’ll be sure to blog about them!

Till tomorrow… live green!

Eco-flirty Fashion

Not Just Pretty.comEco-friendly clothing has a bad wrap when it comes to fashion. Sure, there are plenty of organic tee shirts and shorts out there but that isn’t what you want to wear out on date night! However, there is good news; there are designers out there with an eco-conscience! At Not Just Pretty, you will find a wide variety of “green” fashion from bamboo dresses to one-of-a-kind recycled turtlenecks! You are sure to find something to fit your eco-fashion fancy.

Look for one of my favorite designers, Eco-Ganik, a California-based designer/manufacturer that is an active member of the OTA (Organic Trade Association) and the OTA Fiber Counsel. In addition, you’ll be buying local which is one of the most eco-friendly things you can do! Eco-Ganik is also available in stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom in addition to small boutiques around the country so look for it when you are out and about!

Baby accessories can be green too!

February 3rd, 2009 Jennifer Posted in Green Baby, Green Fashion, Green Living No Comments »

Babies have lots of accessories! Of these, most moms have a favorite; mine happened to be my sling. I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. I admit, it was a little scary at first wondering if my little bundle of joy was actually going to stay in that piece of fabric and more importantly, would that fabric hold him? The answer to both (thankfully) was yes.

Choosing a sling is also a little daunting. Do you go with a slip on or a buckle? How do you wrap it? Living in L.A., I choose to go with this 100% certified organic cotton sling. I loved it because it went with just about everything! My friend in the Midwest loved the Karma Baby Pouch because of the cold weather. She didn’t want to hassle with a buckle, she would just wear the pouch and when she got out of the car, she would just pluck her son out of the car seat and stick him in the pouch and pull her coat over top of them both! It really is just a matter of preference and personal style, try them on and choose your favorite!

Be stylish AND eco-friendly!

February 2nd, 2009 Jennifer Posted in Green Baby, Green Fashion No Comments »

Last week I wrote a lot about cloth diapering but to those of you that have babies, you know that there is a lot more to them than just diapers! This week, I’ll go over eco-friendly fashion for both mom and baby, safer toys, and how to throw a “green” baby shower.

I’m no fashionista by far, but I do know what I like and I try to buy quality clothing that is either organic material or produced in an eco-friendly way. This past week has been very busy looking for green maternity clothing for a friend of mine. I happened across this boutique website that offers a nice variety of items including this cute tee shirt from Pure T. In addition to this 100% organic cotton tee printed with vegetable dyes, Pure T will plant a tree with each one purchased! Of course, there are many places online that you can find organic boutique clothing; however, I realize that we are all in an economic crunch so just remember that you can always be eco-friendly by going second-hand as well!

Till tomorrow…live green,

I got a new pair of boots!

November 20th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in Green Fashion No Comments »

I’m so excited that I just had to share them with you! They are black wrap boots from Toms. I choose to buy from Toms for a couple of reasons the first being that for every pair of shoes or boots they sell, they also give to children in need around the world. In addition to their philanthropy, a lot of their shoes, including the boots I just purchased are vegan.

Being that they are vegan, they are made with 100% cotton, no leather, and are extremely comfortable since you wrap them up your leg and attach with a Velcro fastener at the top. The soles are made out of EVA, a soft and flexible, yet durable plastic that is common for both tennis shoes and flip-flops. Toms also has a variety of canvas shoes available in both men’s and women’s sizes from infant on up all with the same “buy one and they’ll give one” guarantee. In fact, since their inception in 2006, Toms has given over 60,000 pairs of shoes to children in Argentina and South America! Now that is something to feel good about!
